A French long-stay visa application begins with your reason for travelling and the rules that apply to your situation. Compare routes, organise evidence and understand the French used in document requests, appointments and arrival instructions.
Compare French learning apps for drills, listening, conversation and feedback. Understand their limits and choose a tool that fits your routine. An app can help with one part of French without covering the others. Compare the learning tasks each tool supports, and check current plans before subscribing. Your routine matters more than the longest feature list.
Understand French administrative vocabulary for dossiers, online applications, appointments and follow-ups. Read examples with English translations. Administrative words describe both the documents you submit and the stage your application has reached. Follow the process from preparing a dossier to requesting an update, keeping copies and receipts as evidence of your steps.
Understand taxe foncière, taxe d’habitation and French property tax notices, with official links for rates and individual rules. The name of a tax does not tell you its amount or whether it applies to you. Use the vocabulary to read a notice, then check the official rules and your property’s situation before estimating a bill.
Choose imparfait or passé composé with a timeline method. Compare background, habits and completed events through translated examples and audio. Both tenses describe the past, but they present an event differently. Follow the timeline examples to separate the background from the event being narrated, then compare how changing the tense changes the viewpoint.
Learn French subjunctive triggers, regular and irregular forms, and common exceptions. Compare examples and practise choosing the correct mood. The subjunctive depends on the expression and sentence structure, not simply on whether an idea is uncertain. Learn the common constructions first, then compare the exceptions and practise the verb forms in context.
Find French news sources suited to your reading and listening skills. Compare learner resources, authentic news and a practical reading routine. The subject, speed and amount of background knowledge all affect difficulty. Start with a source you can partly understand, then use the reading routine to work on a short item before moving to longer coverage.
Follow French radio debates using discourse markers, topic vocabulary and structured listening. Learn to track arguments without catching every word. A debate combines different speakers, interruptions and references to earlier arguments. Listen first for the topic and positions, then use the markers below to follow how a speaker agrees, objects or changes direction.
Understand how smiles and greetings can differ across French social settings. Avoid assumptions and learn practical ways to start an interaction. A smile is only one social cue, and its meaning depends on the setting and the person. Use these situations to consider possible interpretations rather than treating one interaction as a rule about everyone in France.
Learn French politeness through greetings, tu and vous, requests and everyday etiquette. Compare situations and useful translated phrases. Politeness depends on the relationship, the setting and the wording of a request. Start with greetings and forms of address, then compare the examples to choose a level of formality that fits the interaction.
